Werner-von-Linde Hall

Higher, faster, further – Indoor athletics have found a superb home here. During the Olympic Games, athletes were able to warm up in the Werner-von-Linde Hall before their events and then access the Olympic Stadium directly through a tunnel.

Nowadays professional athletes regularly train in this hall. In addition, it is a venue for regional competitions.

However, variety is also the spice of life: The Werner-von-Linde Hall offers plenty of space for relatively small exhibitions and trade shows as well as for examination candidates from the Technical University and ICC.

New construction of the Werner-von-Linde Hall

The name and the roof structure have been retained, but in all other respects the training hall inaugurated on 20 January 2007 was entirely new.

The hall, large parts of which are built into the ground, has been expanded to the north, south and west under the familiar roof structure. New functions have been added and are organised on two different levels. The Park level accommodates the athletes' entrance on the east side from the back of the Olympic Stadium and a gallery for competition booths. Entering from the west, people can enter the 300-seat viewing stand or can access the bistro in the foyer that is designed to welcome about 75 guests. There is room for another 80 people on the terrace in front of the bistro.

The new training hall as well as the power training and gymnastics rooms are located three metres below this level, as are the trainer and training rooms. The heart of the hall is the 200-metre oval running track. In the middle of this track is located the 60-metre sprint track as well as the running tracks for the high, long and triple jumps and the pole vaulting facilities. The extended area of the hall houses the "throwing suite" for the disciplines of shot put, javelin and discus. A particular highlight is also the 110-metre sprint track that emerges from the underground area into the hall, together with its approx. 20-metre deceleration zone and cutting-edge timing systems. To the south, it is possible for wheelchair users and deliveries to access the hall directly, whilst athletes have direct access to the outdoor sports facilities.

In addition, the new Werner-von-Linde Hall features an innovative heating and cooling system that controls the climate in the building by means of the walls, floors and ceilings.
