Olympic Ice Sport Centre

This was the beginning: the ice stadium on Oberwiesenfeld opened in 1967 as the first of all sports facilities on Oberwiesenfeld. In 1972 it was the venue for boxing competitions, today the Olympic Ice Sports Centre is the home arena for the ice hockey cracks of EHC Red Bull München. With the training hall for public ice skating and the adjacent SoccArena, the complex also offers an enormously high recreational value.

For skating cracks and cringe artists: top-class sport and leisure fun on ice

In April 1965, when construction began, the idea of a Munich bid for the 1972 Summer Games was still a long way off. And when the ice stadium was opened in 1967 with a match between the FC Bayern (!) and SC Riessersee ice hockey teams, propeller planes were still taking off and landing next door at Oberwiesenfeld airfield. In 1969 the hall was the venue for the table tennis world championships, and in 1972 the boxers fought here for Olympic medals. Since then, the hall has been home to Munich's many top ice hockey clubs, from the EHC in 1970 to the EC Hedos, the München Barons and the EHC Red Bull München. In addition to many international games against top nations such as Russia, Canada or Finland, the hall was also the venue for the World Championship in electric wheelchair hockey in 2014. The training hall right next to it has been a popular meeting place for skating for decades. For friends of cultivated recreational football, the adjacent SoccArena with its indoor courts offers great football fun.
