Fan Fest FIFA World Cup 2006 TM

The Olympic Park will be the ultimate meeting point for football fans from all over the world - above all for fans who don't have a ticket for the stadium. Football history has already been written once in Munich's Olympic Park - on 7th July 1974 when the German national team celebrated their second World Cup victory in the Olympic Stadium.

Some 32 years later, in June and July 2006, the park will once again be playing a leading role in the FIFA World Cup in Germany.

By forming a bridge between 1974 to 2006, between the Olympic Stadium and the new Munich Football Arena, between the past and the present day, Munich intends to host a huge football festival for fans from the city itself and all over the world. And the Olympic Park is playing a major role in this. It is going to be the location of the FIFA World Cup 2006TM Fan Festival and the official public viewing. It will be the central location for all activities relating to the World Cup, and will therefore form the main meeting point for fans.

Official public viewing

The core of the extensive programme to be provided free-of-charge every day during the FIFA World Cup 2006TM is the official public viewing. 56 World Cup games will be shown live here on a 60 square metre screen. Furthermore, there will be a number of live feeds from other World Cup cities. The location is guaranteed to offer the best viewing opportunity and a great atmosphere. The huge screen and a large event stage will be situated on pontoons in the Olympic Lake. In addition, the Olympic Lake will be partly decked over to give all visitors the chance to experience the events - above all those on the stage - up close.

Cultural, musical and entertainment programme

With - almost literally - a drum roll, the cultural and musical programme of the Fan Festival will be inaugurated on June 6 at 8:30 p.m. The open air classical concert "3 Orchestras and Stars" in the Olympic Stadium is an official contribution by the German Federal Government to the artistic and cultural program of the FIFA World Cup 2006TM in cooperation with the Organising Committee of the FIFA World Cup 2006TM. The Bavarian State Orchestra conducted by Zubin Mehta, the Munich Philharmonic with Christian Thielemann and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra with Mariss Jansons will be playing during this evening together with star tenor Placido Domingo. This will be the first time that these three blue chip orchestras have shared the stage in a major symphonic event. The Bavarian Radio Choir and the Munich Philharmonic Choir as well as other stars will complete the star-studded concert bill.

The musical program on the event stage in the Olympic Lake will start only a few hours in advance of this classical highlight in the Olympic Stadium. On an almost daily basis - excepting the period of the group games from June 10 to 19 - this programme organised by the Munich-based Muffatwerk in cooperation with Olympiapark München GmbH will feature national and international music groups and performers who will be playing live to the public.

The programme also includes a varied range of stage shows. DJs from Radio Bayern 3 will be hosting the programme. The radio station will also be organising the music on selected days. The Bayern 3 Band will also be playing on several days. In addition, top-quality entertainment will also be provided on the event stage on all the World Cup match days, at which the companies Anheuser-Busch, Toshiba, MasterCard and Coca-Cola will each entertain the Fan Festival visitors with a 30-minute interactive show.

The programme will be rounded off by highly interesting event and exhibition areas. For example, it will be possible to join in with the sports and games modules from Adidas. The entire merchandise range of the FIFA World Cup 2006TM will also be presented there. Visitors to the Fan Festival who fancy a flutter will also have the opportunity to bet on the outcome of the World Cup games on show. Furthermore, tourism agencies will be promoting their respective regions with attractive programmes and display stands.

The ARD and ZDF Roadshow (a roadshow organised by two of Germany's national TV broadcasters) will be visiting Munich for a few days during the Fan Festival to present activities relating to the event. The final for the first official "Kick-O-Mania Tournament" in the Olympic Park has already been set for June 10. This cup, conceived as a roadshow, will have visited several German cities in advance and offers not only thrilling football games but also plenty of fun and action for the whole family.

Kids' world

There'll also be lots for little football fans to enjoy during the Fan Festival in the Olympic Park. With the slogan "A Multicultural World Cup", the Munich City Youth Association in cooperation with Youth Sport Munich will be organising a large kids' festival in the middle of the Olympic Park. Here, a wide range of games, sports, crafts and events will be put on for children aged between 3 and 13 - free of charge. Many of the items have been specifically planned to enable children with disabilities to take part as well. At the same time, special ideas have been developed to open up a new world of experience for children without disabilities to enable them to get to know and appreciate the abilities of children with disabilities. The Kid's World Team of the City Youth Association consists of professional event organisers, social service experts, youth outreach workers and enthusiastic selected members from a variety of youth associations.

Gastronomy

It goes without saying that visitors to the Fan Festival will be able to choose from a wide range of international cuisine. Under the organisation of Haberl Gastronomie, the generous provision of outlets distributed all over the park will offer culinary specialities from all over the world and, of course, from Bavaria too. Authentic draught Munich beer will be served by the Association of Munich Breweries (Spaten, Franziskaner, Paulaner, Hacker-Pschorr, Münchner Hofbräu, Augustiner and Löwenbräu) at its stands throughout the park. Coca-Cola will also be providing a wide selection of refreshing soft drinks to quench the thirst of the visitors to the Fan Festival.

Opening times

The Fan Festival of the FIFA World Cup 2006TM will open on June 6 and close on July 9, 2006. It is open daily from 1:00 p.m. onwards. On match days, the Fan Festival will close about 30 minutes after the end of the last broadcast, and at about 11:00 on non-match days.
