"The Olympic Park is one of the most beautiful places in the world! As alive after 50 years as it was then!" Hundreds of similar statements were found in the Jubilee Pavilion's wish memory. In fact, the conclusion must be: The Olympic Park Munich has inspired millions of people as a visionary synthesis of the arts, as a tourist highlight and unique event centre also in its 50th anniversary year. More than 4.4 million registered visitors flocked to the park in 2022. The 483 events on 609 days attracted over 2.6 million guests, the leisure and tourism facilities around 1.8 million visitors. In total, the visitor statistics since the 1972 Games now show 225.9 million guests.
"It was a sensational year, filled with a wide variety of events, exhibitions and offers, with great moments and emotions. The year 2022 has clearly shown us how popular and appreciated the Olympic Park still is after 50 years of intensive use, what it can achieve and that, looking to the future, it is more than worthwhile to continue to develop the park with all our might," comments Olympic Park manager Marion Schöne on the extremely successful visitor record of the past year and continues: "The result takes on even more significance when you consider that we had two extremely difficult Corona years behind us, with very many event cancellations and postponements, months of closures, visitor restrictions and short-time working, and we had to make a cold start, so to speak, burdened with all the challenges that the pandemic had caused us and the event industry. "
The first months of 2022 were still dominated by Corona measures, but then the Olympic Park took off and there were many highlights to experience in the anniversary year: Whether it was Easter in XXL format, the action sports festival MASH, the Festival of Games, Sports and Art, the Midsummer Night's Dream or the music festival Superbloom, which finally celebrated its premiere, plus seven open airs in the Olympic Stadium and several concerts in the Olympic Hall. But the crowning glory of all events was the European Championships Munich 2022. Nine European Championships framed by "The Roofs" festival thrilled 1.47 million visitors, electrified Munich and created unique images. Thanks to its success and international appeal, the multi-sport event already occupies a very special place in the history of the Olympic Park and sport.
