The sports arena, with match seating of up to 11,500, will be the future home of German ice hockey champions Munich Red Bulls and German basketball champions FC Bayern Munich. To improve the local sports infrastructure for schools, amateur clubs and young talents, three additional canopied ice rinks will be built next to the sports arena as training facilities and for recreational use. For the City of Munich, the special agreement to make the ice rinks available to its citizens for 8,000 hours each season presents a unique opportunity to create excellent skating conditions for schools, clubs and the general public.

At this point there had been the Olympic Cycling Stadium, in which the track cyclers competed for Olympic Glory in 1972. After the games there were built four tennis courts  in the middle of the track which was 285,71 meters long and laid out with Doussié-Afzelia-Wood. Just before the Millennium the Stadium was rebuilt into an interactive museum called the “Olympic Spirit”, since 2004 it was used as a congress centre and exhibition venue named “Event Arena”. In December 2014 the Municipality of Munich decided the construction of a new multifunctional hall. The demolition of the Event Arena took place in 2015.
