New fireworks concept for Midsummer Nights Dream

25.03.2009 - Olympiapark München GmbH

Munich, 24 March 2009 On the evening of July 25th, 2009, the skies above the Olympic Park in Munich will once again be transformed in to a dazzling spectacle of light. For the fifth time, the Munich “Summer Night’s Dream” festival is presenting a dazzling “Fireworks Show of Superlatives”, with a completely new concept and twice as many fireworks as last year. The event has become a huge public attraction and was sold out for the first time in 2008 with an attendance of 63,000. Visitors can look forward to a varied programme of events on three stages positioned around the Olympic lake: Appropriately for the title of the event, the band “Münchener Freiheit” has been signed for the central lakeside stage. This cult German band will present a “best-of” programme including the hits “Ohne Dich” (Without You) and “Solang’ man Träume noch leben kann” (“As long as you can still live your dreams”). The new Munich band “Mickey Monroe” will play in the warm-up programme. The party stage will rock to the sound of “MIA” from Berlin who have become one of the most successful German bands with chart hits such as “Hungriges Herz” (Hungry Heart) and “Tanz der Moleküle” (Dance of the Molecules). The names of the musical stars to play on the Youth Stage will be announced in April. The event is centred around a 35-minute interaction of light, pyrotechnics and music. This new fireworks concept, entitled “EXTREME”, has been designed this year by the Italian company Parente Fireworks which, among other events, has staged the fireworks for the opening of the Winter Olympic Games in Turin. This brilliant display will be reflected in the waters of the Olympic Lake. The four tonnes of fireworks represent twice the amount of last year’s display and will be accompanied by harmonious music. A wide variety of culinary delights and refreshments will be served. “To celebrate the fifth Munich Summer Night’s Dream, we promise a magnificent firework display” declares Wilfrid Spronk, Business Manager of the Olympic Park operating company. Tickets for the Munich Summer Night’s Dream, costing €16.00, are available immediately from München Ticket, Tel. 0180 54 818181 (call charges may be higher from mobile phones), from the website at www.muenchenticket.de and the usual advance ticket offices.
