From the X Games to MUNICH MASH

26.02.2014 - Olympiapark München GmbH

Munich Action Sport Heroes, 18-20 July 2014, Munich Olympic Park First came the shock: on 3 October, ESPN announced without any warning the cancellation of all X Games outside the USA, which included the successful event in Munich's Olympic Park. Almost 120,000 visitors had come to the park, enjoyed action sports over four days and had a fantastic time at the central party. "We were speechless, but then we quickly started to think about how we could keep this target audience in the Olympic Park," says Olympic Park boss Ralph Huber, recalling the days from the autumn of 2013. Additional support also came from the fans, for example via Facebook, and many posts said the same thing: "Do something of your own!" So it was perfectly clear: Action Sports had arrived in Munich. Olympiapark München GmbH and S&K Marketingberatung GmbH, which had played a key role in developing and staging the event in the summer of 2013 in collaboration with specialists from the USA, came up with a concept that quickly impressed partners Red Bull too. In December 2013, the Supervisory Board of Olympiapark München GmbH also gave the green light for the event, and so the new event also gained widespread support in the world of politics too. "For us, it was a natural milestone on the road towards the final concept, since with Red Bull as our partner and the agreement of our supervisory board for the event locations of the Olympic lake, the Olympic Stadium / Coubertinplatz and Olympic Ice Stadium, a spectacular set-up was guaranteed," says Ralph Huber. After a little fine tuning, Munich Mash was finally born at the start of 2014. "The Munich Action Sports Heroes (MASH) will be taking action sports to the next level this summer," says Frank Seipp, Managing Director of S&K Marketingberatung and Head of Organisation for MUNICH MASH, confidently. Three events are planned for MUNICH MASH between the 18th and 20th of July: Red Bull X-Fighters (FMX), Swatch Prime Line (MTB) and BMX Street Rink. "With the Red Bull X-Fighters, we've got the absolute pinnacle event on the scene, it really doesn't get any better! With the MTB and BMX too, we're working with the international top level. The set-up looks sensational, and the MASH FEST will again be a fantastic experience for fans," says Seipp, describing the new event in the Olympic Park. In 2013, the Olympic Park saw some impressive scenes with the set-up of the X Games. MUNICH MASH certainly won't be lagging behind on that score. Advance tickets for MUNICH MASH will go on sale on 12 March. Further information can be obtained from www.munich-mash.com or www.facebook.com/munichmash
