Foundation stone laid for the SAP Garden

24.02.2021 - Olympiapark München GmbH

Construction work for the SAP Garden is progressing. In the last week of February 2021, Red Bull Stadion GmbH laid the foundation stone for the new indoor arena in the Olympic Park - a skate, puck, basketball, Münchner Kindl symbol and a can of Red Bull were symbolically encased in the permanent ice and sunk into the ground. Albeit with no ceremony and guests due to the coronavirus: the laying of the foundation stone for the SAP Garden marked an important milestone in the history of the new building project. A multifunctional sports arena seating up to 11,500 spectators is being built on the site of the former Olympic velodrome, which will serve as a venue for sports and sports-related events and functions. The main users will be EHC Red Bull München, FC Bayern München Basketball and Munich City Council. Three additional canopied ice rinks will be built alongside the sports arena for use as training facilities and for non-competitive recreational use to provide the best possible infrastructure for school, leisure and developing sports facilities. Munich City Council signed a comprehensive contract governing use of the facility for this purpose. In February 2019, Red Bull Stadion GmbH, together with Munich City Council, FC Bayern Basketball and SAP, which has the naming rights on the arena, unveiled the winning design by Danish architects 3XN from Copenhagen and landscape architects LATZ+PARTNER. The website www.sapgarden.com went live at the same time as the foundation stone was laid. Interested parties can follow the development of the construction project here.
