UEFA EURO 2020 No Fan Festival in the Olympic Park

After a thorough assessment of the current situation, the City of Munich has decided not to pursue the preparations for the planned Fan Festival with Fan Zone in the Munich Olympic Park and has informed UEFA of its decision. Munich is thus following the example of numerous other host cities that had already announced earlier that they would not be providing Fan Zones. Based on the overall volatile pandemic situation and in view of the valid legal framework of the Bavarian Infection Protection Measures Ordinance, a realistic statement on possible visitor numbers would not be possible before the start of the European Championships. According to the assessment by the health and safety authorities, it is unlikely that several thousand spectators will be allowed to attend an event of the kind that the Fan Zone concept had included. The time had therefore come to make a decision so as not to start building up the numerous offers in the Fan Zone now only to have to stop at a later date. Marion Schöne, Managing Director Olympiapark München GmbH: "We respect this decision, of course, but we would have liked to have made a first step towards a restart in the event sector with the Fan Festival. Now we are hoping for late summer or autumn to finally be able to host again."
