Lieutenant Werner in Wolfgang Petersen's classic film ‘Das Boot’ was Grönemeyer's first role as an actor in 1981, which made him famous. However, his definitive breakthrough came three years later as a musician with the album ‘4630 Bochum’. This work was named one of the ‘50 events that changed rock “n” roll’ by Rolling Stone magazine. In a poll for the best album of all time, listeners of WDR 2 voted ‘4630 Bochum’ into 10th place, making it the best German-language album. The title song is still played before every VfL home game at the Ruhrstadion.
But the successes continued seamlessly after that, with regular number 1 placements in the album charts. In 2025, Grönemeyer kicked off his ‘mittendrin – akustisch’ tour with seven completely sold-out performances in Dortmund and Berlin. An unplugged concert of his hits, with musicians and singers creating a very special atmosphere on a special centre stage. Grönemeyer will also be accompanied in the Olympic Hall by a 20-strong choir of women and men, an orchestra with strings and his band – on an extraordinary evening with a music legend.
