Spanning a total of six episodes – co-produced and broadcast on ZDF – the third instalment of the award-winning *Our Blue Planet* series once again reveals exciting secrets and breathtaking wonders of our oceans, thanks to advances in camera technology and new scientific discoveries.
Shortly afterwards, from 4 May 2027, these extraordinary underwater habitats and their inhabitants will also be on display on a literally grand scale as a live experience: ‘Our Blue Planet III – Live in Concert’, presented by BBC Studios and FKP Scorpio Entertainment, is going on tour across Germany – with a total of eleven arena dates scheduled across the country.
Audiences at the live productions can rediscover moments from the TV series – specially selected for the live version – in an extraordinary concert experience. The breathtaking footage fills a state-of-the-art Ultra HD LED screen measuring 200 square metres – roughly the size of a tennis court – making it one of the largest screens of its kind to be used on an orchestral tour featuring film projections. Accompanying this, the renowned City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra will perform live the impressive new film score by Oscar®-winning composer Hans Zimmer, as well as music by Thom Lukas and Laurentia Editha for Bleeding Fingers Music.
Next year’s new tour builds on the remarkable success of previous BBC Earth Live productions in Germany: the three ‘Planet Earth – Live in Concert’ shows, ‘Frozen Worlds – Live in Concert’ and ‘Our Blue Planet II – Live in Concert’ have already thrilled hundreds of thousands of visitors across the country over the past two decades. These outstanding BBC nature documentary series have thus established themselves as thrilling live shows, bringing some of television’s most spectacular wildlife footage to live audiences across the country.
The music for "Our Blue Planet III", composed by the legendary Hans Zimmer, Thom Lukas and Laurentia Editha for Bleeding Fingers Music, follows in the tradition of the previous *Our Blue Planet* and *Planet Earth* series. As a soundtrack, it does not merely accompany the nature footage, but has helped to redefine what a nature documentary can sound like. It has been honoured with numerous BAFTA and Emmy awards and, just as in the series, plays a very special role as an emotional catalyst in the live production.
Between the concert sequences, marine biologist and research diver Uli Kunz accompanies the audience on their journey of discovery and provides further insights into the creation of this unique footage.
