Born in Graz, he took up singing as a child. After a brief spell in the Hanover Boys' Choir, he sang for eight years in the Dresden Kreuzchor and two years in the Semperoper Symphony Choir. His debut album, ‘Symphony of Light’, stormed straight to number 20 in the charts. It is an opulent work in which he rearranges great classical pieces such as Beethoven's ‘Ode to Joy’, Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake and Mozart's Queen of the Night, combining gentle string sounds with rock riffs. His subsequent releases were also hugely successful, and Symphony of Light 2 was released in early 2025 to mark the tenth anniversary of his debut album.
With his latest studio album, ‘Symphonic Evolution’, The Dark Tenor is embarking on his big Symphonica tour in 2026 – with a spectacular stage production and 3D-printed instruments. For Billy Andrews, who sees himself as a bridge builder between genres, one thing is certain: ‘It's clear to me that Mozart, Beethoven and Bach would have been rockers and punks or influencers in today's world.’ He continues: ‘With Symphonica, I want to bring classical music to life in a new way – modern, powerful and full of emotion. I look forward to sharing this vision with my audience.’
