Gianna Nannini

The daughter of a famous family of pastry chefs from Siena began her musical career exactly half a century ago. In 1976, Gianna Nannini – who cites Janis Joplin as her great role model – released her first album. Her first major commercial success came in 1979 with the album *California*, which also caused a major scandal. This was because the Statue of Liberty on the cover was depicted not holding a torch, but a vibrator. In doing so, she set the tone as a pioneer for women’s self-determination and equality, just as she later did as an environmental activist.

In 1982, she scored her first mega-hit with “Latin Lover”, followed by further bestsellers, until she recorded the official song for the 1990 World Cup in Italy: “Un’estate italiana”, a duet with Edoardo Bennato. To this day, the song is regarded as an expression of a carefree attitude to life, a happy summer in the first year after the end of the Cold War. On her new album “GiannaGold”, the singer now presents 29 songs, including four previously unreleased tracks and ten newly arranged orchestral versions. Her anniversary tour marking 50 years in rock music will also take her to the Olympic Hall.
