At her concert in the Olympic Hall, Nena takes the audience on a journey through time to her hit songs from the 1980s – and, with her new album, proves why, even after more than four decades, she is still one of Germany’s greatest pop artists.

Gabriele Susanne Kerner – known simply as Nena – made her breakthrough straight away with her debut. An appearance on the TV programme “Musikladen” catapulted “Nur geträumt” to number 2 in the charts in September 1982, and in January 1983, “99 Luftballons” even topped the singles chart. The hit also became an international bestseller; the German version reached number 2 in the US Billboard charts, whilst “99 Red Balloons” even hit number one in the UK. An anti-war song for which Nena and songwriter Carlo Karges drew inspiration from a visit to the legendary Rolling Stones concert at Berlin’s Waldbühne in June 1982. At the end of the evening, Mick Jagger and the band released balloons that then drifted towards the Wall.

Other songs such as “Leuchtturm”, “(?) Fragezeichen” and “Irgendwie, irgendwo, irgendwann” propelled Nena to become the most popular singer of the NDW era. But even after the band split up in 1987, she has continued to enjoy great success as a solo artist to this day. After a six-year hiatus, Nena released another single, “Alles ist gut”, in June 2026 – an audible tribute to the 1980s and a taster of her new album, which she will perform at the Olympic Hall alongside her old hits.
