Oasis really took off in 1994 with their very first releases. Their debut album, *Definitely Maybe*, entered the charts at number 1 in September 1994. The Gallagher brothers celebrated their greatest success a year later with their landmark album ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory’, which in July 2026 became the biggest-selling studio album in the history of the UK charts – and ranks third on the list of the UK’s best-selling albums, behind the ‘Greatest Hits’ albums by Queen and ABBA.
As the most successful band of the Britpop era, Oasis were regarded at the time as the voice of the ‘Cool Britannia’ movement, which, in the mid-1990s, following years of entrenched Thatcherism, generated a cheerful, positive spirit of optimism across the whole of the island. Following further successful albums, all of which reached number one in the UK, the brothers split up amid a row in 2009; Oasis seemed to be history for good – until the Gallaghers announced their reunion tour 15 years later. With 41 sold-out concerts in front of nearly three million fans, it became the biggest comeback tour of all time. Now Oasis are also coming to Munich – for three concerts at the Allianz Arena, which is hosting the major open-air festivals as a temporary venue during the renovation of the Olympic Stadium.
