The Red Bulls got some time off from coach Don Jackson on Thursday after an energy-sapping schedule in recent weeks. Captain Patrick Hager therefore followed the draw from the couch. "I'm really looking forward to this round of 16. All previous games between Zug and Munich were high-class and interesting, I expect nothing else when we play each other in November. Although it will certainly be extremely difficult, we want to reach the quarterfinals," said Hager.
The EV Zug has completed the group stage with 17 of 18 possible points and a goal difference of +18 and is in the Champions League playoffs for the fifth time overall. Since the inception of Europe's premier league in 2014, the Swiss champions have been one of only three teams (Tappara Tampere, Frölunda Gothenburg) to always secure a starting spot. Red Bull München is in the knockout round for the seventh time in a row.
