The success story began in 1994 with a half-time performance by an Irish dance troupe at the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin. 300 million people watching on television saw a rousing tap dance show. In early February 1995, Riverdance celebrated its stage premiere at the Point Theatre in Dublin – before the dance and music spectacle became an international bestseller in arenas around the world.
Once again, Riverdance focuses on themes such as Celtic mythology and Irish history, poverty and emigration, farewells and homesickness. This time, the show is performed by a young generation of dancers who were born after 1995 but have all passionately internalised the spirit of Riverdance. Following the huge 2026 tour with performances in 67 cities in the USA, a top-class ensemble will also be touring the major German arenas in 2027 – with innovative choreography, new costumes and a fabulous light show. ‘It is an honour and a pleasure to celebrate 30 years of Riverdance,’ says show director John McColgan. ‘Over the past 30 years, the show has evolved from a spectacle into a global cultural phenomenon.’
