They have been legends of the Munich music scene for decades, their songs timeless classics. To mark their 50th anniversary, the Spider Murphy Gang are embarking on a major anniversary tour. Günther Sigl, Barny Murphy and their bandmates are celebrating the greatest hits of their career and proving that, even after half a century, they are still touring as a brilliant live band and having a great time doing it.

It was 1977 when Günther Sigl, Barny Murphy, Franz Trojan and Michael Busse formed the Spider Murphy Gang. The Spiders soon became the house band at ‘Memoland’ in Schwabing, where they performed covers of big hits by Elvis, Chuck Berry and Bill Haley. Back then, they still sang in English. In one of the first reviews, the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” wrote in 1978: “The four musicians (…) do not, however, stubbornly stick to mere copies, but instead serve up, for example, a delightful waltz interlude in the now historic hit ‘Rock Around the Clock’…”

Soon they were singing in Bavarian; their first record deal followed in 1979, and in 1981 came the hugely successful album “Dolce Vita”, which shot to number 1 in the German charts with hits such as “Skandal im Sperrbezirk”, “Schickeria” and “Zwoa Zigarettn”. Since then, Sigl, Murphy and the Spiders have been tirelessly on tour; they played at the Olympiahalle for the first time in 1984, most recently at a double concert to mark the band’s 40th anniversary in 2017. Their music could also be heard during the Metallica concert in 2018, when James Hetfield & Co. performed “Skandal um Rosi” as a tribute. Now the Spider Murphy Gang are returning to the Olympic Hall – and will mark half a century of music at this home game.
