The idea for this project was born in New Zealand in 2016, when pilot David Elmsly and his then partner, DJ Erika Amoore, watched a video clip of the ‘BBC Proms’. An annual concert series that has been wonderfully celebrating the crossover between classical and popular music for decades. The pair liked the formula; Elmsly and Amoore added DJs, singers and a rousing light and stage show to the mix. The result: Synthony, a fabulous fusion project combining thumping beats and powerful strings, high-speed electronic music and crystal-clear orchestral sound.
Although Amoore and Elmsly were unsure before the 2017 premiere in Auckland whether it would remain a one-off event, Synthony’s debut at the sold-out Town Hall proved an overwhelming success. Tickets for the two follow-up concerts in 2018 at the same venue were also snapped up within a few hours. Synthony soon conquered Australia too; the European premiere in Athens followed in 2024, followed by further guest performances in Calgary and Las Vegas, Paris and Amsterdam, among others – before Synthony now brings the Munich Olympic Hall to life on its 2026 European tour.
