Olympic Tower

That is the ultimate. Indeed it is. At 291 metres, the Olympic Tower is the tallest building in the city. Nowhere else can you get closer to the sky above Munich. Of course, the tower with its viewing platform also offers the best view of the city, the surrounding countryside and the Alpine chain in the south.

Only 30 seconds upwards - and just under 50 minutes per rotation

It was 1964 when the Munich City Council decided to build a television tower on what was then Oberwiesenfeld - to improve radio and TV programmes for the citizens of the city. Eight years later, no one had any idea that the tower would become one of the significant landmarks of the Summer Olympic Games. In the more than five decades since it was opened in 1969, tens of millions of visitors have taken the lift up to 186 metres in just 30 seconds to enjoy the picturesque panorama of Munich and beyond from the viewing platform. A visit to the revolving restaurant 181, which offers an enjoyable 360-degree view and just under 50 minutes per revolution, has long been a classic.
