Germany Cup no longer in the Olympic Park for now

25.02.2015 - Olympiapark München GmbH

Decision by the German Ice Hockey Federation. The Germany Cup will this year not be held in Munich's Olympic Park. Accordingly, the six-year contract between Olympiapark München GmbH and the Deutscher Eishockey-Bund e.v. (DEB) will not be extended. "We would like to express our gratitude for an amazing time. After six successful years in the Olympic Park, we want to continue celebrating the Germany Cup in a new venue. The DEB will never rule out a possible return to Munich with a new arena," explained DEB President Franz Reindl. The Olympic Park hosted the Four Nations Tournament for six consecutive years between 2009 and 2014. The Olympic Hall (2009 - 2011) and the Olympic Ice Stadium (2012 - 2014) venues drew a total of over 180,000 fans. From a German perspective, the sporting balance was extremely positive: the DEB team won four out of the six tournaments (2009, 2010, 2012 and 2014).

"We regret the DEB's decision, but the provisional separation has been on the familiar friendly terms. We are able to look back over a successful cooperation, and I would specifically like to thank the DEB on behalf of myself and my team for the opportunity. And of course, we are delighted that DEB President Franz Reindl is considering a return to Munich in a few years' time," explained Arno Hartung, Managing Director of Olympiapark München GmbH.
