50 years after the 1972 Summer Olympics, Munich will once again host a multi-sport event: The second edition of the European Championships will see nine European Championships taking place ‘under one roof’ from 11 to 21 August 2022. Fans can look forward to the best athletes from all over Europe competing in 176 exciting medal decisions. With the Olympic Games and Olympiapark celebrating their 50-year anniversary in 2022, the City of Munich will be dressing up for a sensational, golden jubilee. The sporting highlight will be the European Championships Munich 2022 from 11 to 21 August 2022, combining the European Championships in athletics, beach volleyball, canoe sprint, cycling, gymnastics, rowing, sport climbing, table tennis, and triathlon. Preparations are in full swing, as the one-year-to-go mark is approaching. With the confirmation of the schedule for each of the nine championships, the biggest multi-sport event since the 1972 Olympic Games continues to take shape and provides the participating federations, broadcasters, governing body of the European Championships as well as the organising committee of host city Munich with planning security. Sports programme extended to 176 medal decisions The second edition of the combined European Championships will feature approximately around 4,700 of the best athletes from about 50 nations, competing in 176 medal decisions for the title of European champion. In addition to the nine Olympic sports, the sports programme has been expanded to include para events in canoe sprint and rowing, increasing the event count from 158 to 176 and adding to the remarkable diversity of Munich 2022. With 176 medal decisions in eleven days, our spectators can expect a gripping and varied sports programme every day. The European Broadcasting Union already broadcast the premiere of the European Championships in Berlin and Glasgow, accumulating a television audience of more than 1.4 billion.
