Visitors can still look forward to exciting guided tours in the Olympic Park. The visitor service programme includes the Waldi and Architek tours, starting on 8 September.
"It is important to us to offer the many tourists who visit the Olympic Park an appealing tour programme even during the renovation of the Olympic Stadium, even though the popular tent roof tours are of course very difficult to replace. We are now starting with the Waldi and modified Architek tours, which provide visitors with lots of interesting and exciting information about the park,‘ says Olympic Park director Marion Schöne, adding: ‘Further tours are in preparation and will follow in the coming months.
The colourful mascot Waldi symbolises the joie de vivre and special spirit of the 1972 Olympic Games. On the tour of the same name, guests follow in his footsteps across the grounds. The Waldi Tour starts at the information pavilion with a short film about the creation of the world-famous tent roof and an introduction to the Olympic Park using a model. This is followed by a walk through the park to special viewpoints and exciting stops. Along the way, the guides share everything there is to know about the history and present of the park as one of the most successful venues for sports, culture and leisure. The Waldi Tour lasts approximately 90 to 120 minutes (depending on the size of the group) and costs €20 for adults and €15 for children aged 10 to 15, school pupils and students.
The Architek Tour is aimed at anyone who wants to learn more about the visionary planning of the Olympic architects, including Fritz Auer, Günter Behnisch and Frei Otto. After an introductory film, the tour proceeds to the original measuring device, which vividly demonstrates how bold ideas were transformed into one of the world's most daring roof structures. The subsequent guided tour explains the technical features, logistical challenges and significance of the roof as a symbol of modern engineering. With additional visual materials and expert guides, this tour offers a unique insight into the architectural history of the Olympic Park. The tour lasts approximately 120 minutes and costs €20 for adults, €15 for children aged 10 to 15, school pupils and students, and €15 per person for groups of 20 or more.
Both tours are not normally accessible. However, the visitor service is happy to put together an individual tour for people with disabilities. Payment for the tours can be made in cash or by card in the souvenir shop of the visitor pavilion next to the Olympic Action Sports Centre. Dates, registrations and reservations can be viewed here.
