Municipal company publishes annual report for 2024

With an annual surplus of seven million euros, Olympic Park Munich GmbH achieved one of the best results in its history in 2024. "It was an outstanding, remarkable year for the Olympic Park. The 2024 event calendar was packed with major events, and millions of visitors took advantage of the events and offerings,‘ comments Marion Schöne, Managing Director of Olympic Park Munich GmbH (OMG), adding: ‘The park was a place of joie de vivre, a place that inspires people – in line with our mission. We are all the more delighted that we also managed to close the year with such an excellent financial result – one of the best in post-Olympic history."

In fact, net income for the year rose by around €1.9 million compared to the previous year (€5.1 million). The significant increase was due in particular to major events such as the ten open-air concerts, the UEFA EURO Fan Zone, the European Handball Championship and the Superbloom music festival.

For over 50 years, the Olympic Park has been an incomparable international event centre and a local recreation area with high recreational value for Munich. Offering all this to the population and countless tourists every day is a major undertaking and, in these difficult economic times, sometimes a real feat. As Chair of the Supervisory Board of Olympic Park Munich GmbH, I would therefore like to express my sincere thanks to Managing Director Marion Schöne and her team for this remarkable year 2024 and the excellent annual financial results," explains Mayor Verena Dietl.

With 5.7 million visitors, the park recorded its highest number of guests since football moved out in 2005. Over 4.3 million people (previous year: 2.9 million) attended 363 events on 627 event days. A further 1.4 million (previous year: 1.6 million) park visitors used the leisure and tourism facilities. This includes all businesses in the Olympic Park, even those operated by third parties, such as the SAP Garden, which opened in August (public ice skating) and September (event operations) 2024. In addition to the 5.7 million guests counted, there were also thousands upon thousands of Munich residents and tourists who visited the Olympic grounds without being registered.

We are delighted with this success and can be proud of our achievements. However, we cannot rest on our laurels, as 2025 and the years that follow will bring numerous challenges. The lower number of large open-air concerts, the closure of the Olympic Tower and the complete closure of the Olympic Stadium for two years from September onwards will have a noticeable impact on sales revenue and thus on earnings," said Marion Schöne, adding: "Despite everything, there are also many positive things to note for the current year 2025: The utilisation rate of the Olympic Hall is very good. For the first time since the Corona pandemic, BMW returned with its annual general meeting. Football euphoria reigned at the Fan Fest on the occasion of the UEFA Champions League final, and our own events, such as MASH and the Summer Night's Dream, will also inspire enthusiasm. The Small Olympic Hall is enjoying brisk visitor numbers for the “Body Worlds” exhibition. And there will be new highlights, such as the Loop One Festival biathlon event, the opening of the Olympic Action Sports Centre and the Skylift mobile observation tower as a temporary replacement attraction for the Olympic Tower."
